CASA SYSTEMS UNVEILS DIGITAL VIDEO “HEADEND IN A BOX” AT CABLE-TEC
EXPO Revolutionizes The Economics Of Digital TV Services;
SeaChange to Sell and Support Casa Products
Tewksbury, MA (June 15, 2005)
– This week at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo Casa Systems, Inc. debuts its C2800
Digital Media Manager, a “headend in a box” that combines channel
grooming, program splicing, trans-rating, statistical multiplexing and
QAM modulation into a single compact platform at very low costs. In a
1U form factor the C2800 handles up to 512 simultaneous digital
streams – the smallest footprint and greatest density available today.
Founded by broadband networking authority Jerry Guo, Casa Systems is
transforming the economics of provisioning new digital television
services. Unlike any predecessor on the market today, Casa’s C2800
helps lower the per-stream and per-channel cost of video-on-demand, ad
insertion, broadcast channel management and digital simulcast.
Now, Casa’s products are backed by the world’s largest service and
support organization in television: Through a product supply
agreement, SeaChange International (Nasdaq: SEAC) will market, sell,
and support the C2800, as well as Casa’s C2100 Series QAM and other
edge devices.
“Nothing else comes close to the sheer economy of the C2800 and now we
have the reach and support of SeaChange,” said Jerry Guo, president
and CEO, Casa Systems. “Diminished headend space, tight budgets,
non-stop integration and upgrades – there’s a long list of challenges
we’re overcoming with our solutions. At the same time, we’re offering
the best available performance in digital program insertion,
modulation, grooming and other mission-critical tasks.”
The C2800 Digital Media Manager’s key functions include:
- Grooming: managing channel
line-ups at network’s edge with simultaneous support for
Standard-Definition (SD) or High-Definition (HD) streams
- Trans-rating & statistical
multiplexing: concurrently managing both tasks to maximize
channel efficiency and spare bandwidth
- Digital program insertion:
further industry-leading performance, inserting content into SD and
HD streams and supporting SCTE DVS-253 and DVS-380
- Integrated QAM: enabling
cost-sensitive, incremental growth – 16 channels per
software-configurable module – and supporting frequency-agile
upconversion, modulation and encryption
- Switched broadcast: managing
client requests in real-time to divert network bandwidth from less
frequently viewed programs
- MPEG switching: dynamically
processing and routing MPEG content sources to any output
- MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 support:
extending all media processing and bandwidth management capabilities
to MPEG-4 AVC. MPEG-2 deployments are field upgradeable to MPEG-4
Cable-Tec Expo debut
This week during the SCTE Cable Tec-Expo in
San Antonio (Seachange booth 2107), the C2800 will be demonstrated with SeaChange International’s Spot Ad Insertion System.
The companies will also
demonstrate Casa's C2100 Edge QAM Modulator, integrated with
SeaChange’s VOD
system, showing simultaneous MPEG video-on-demand and video over
DOCSIS. The C2100 leads the
industry in port
density and integration. It combines up to 64 QAM channels with
integrated layer 2/3 switching and routing. The “soft-QAM” provides
cable operators with a future-proof system that is designed to adapt
to new encryption algorithms, video compression standards and network
protocol changes including NGNA.
