Press Release CASA SYSTEMS' C2200
WIDEBAND CMTS EARNS DOCSIS 3.0 SILVER QUALIFICATION: The only silver qualified CMTS
platform on the market today that can be firmware
upgraded to support all DOCSIS 3.0 features.
Andover, MA
(December 20, 2007)
-
Casa Systems,
Inc., the leader in next generation cable edge technology, today
announced that the C2200 cable modem termination system (CMTS) has
received CableLabs
DOCSIS
3.0 qualification. The headend was tested under a tiered program
that creates three different qualification levels (Bronze, Silver,
and Gold) corresponding to increasing levels of feature sets. The
C2200 was the first and only CMTS to be awarded Silver level
status. Silver level qualification includes both upstream and
downstream channel bonding, as well as AES encryption, and IPv6
for cable modems.
"This is a major milestone for Casa Systems, as well as for the
entire cable industry." said Jerry Guo, CEO of Casa Systems. “For
the first time, cable operators can now deploy advanced broadband
data services that their residential and business customers
demand, with full confidence that the equipment will interoperate
fully with DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems yet to be deployed, and without
fear of being burdened with future hardware upgrades to achieve
the full DOCSIS 3.0 feature set.”
By meeting the requirements for Silver level qualification, the
Casa Systems C2200 allows for the rapid provisioning of ultra-high
bandwidth data services, providing the multi-system operator (MSO)
with a stepping stone that allows them to increase the bandwidth
per customer as needed, potentially years into the future, while
significantly reducing capital and operational expenses today.
Channel bonding can be increased from as few as 2 channels, to up
to 16 channels, at any time, with the C2200. This provides the
potential to deliver over 600 Mbits/sec bandwidth to a single
cable modem. Casa Systems’ C2200 makes the move to high bandwidth
DOCSIS 3.0 data services yet easier by providing the MSO with
variable downstream to upstream channel ratios, while keeping all
data processing, modulation, and up/down conversion in a one rack
unit device.
CableLabs
Downstream RF Interface (DRFI) specification. This specification
provides a rigorous set of requirements for new multi-channel QAM
devices, to ensure high density upconverters do not interfere with
other channels in the MSO’s hybrid fiber coax (HFC) plant. The
C2200 can transmit up to 4 QAM channels on a single RF port, and
provides an extended frequency range, up to 1Ghz.
About the
C2200 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS)
The Casa Systems
C2200 CMTS is the industry's only silver qualified DOCSIS 3.0 CMTS
that can be software-upgraded to support full DOCSIS 3.0 features.
The C2200 is also EuroDOCSIS 2.0 qualified. Besides having the most
extensive DOCSIS 3.0 features set on the market today, as a third
generation CMTS, the C2200 has several unique capabilities beyond
DOCSIS 3.0. First, the C2200 supports complete separation of
downstream and upstream channel capacity in a single physical
chassis and thus provides flexible downstream to upstream channel
ratios. Second, the C2200 has significantly higher channel density
than a second generation CMTS. The C2200 can support up to 48
downstream QAM channels in 1RU while the second generation CMTS
typically has fewer channels in 12-14 RU. Third, the C2200 can
support both DOCSIS and MPEG/DVB traffic in a single platform. This
unique feature is very important for cable operators to manage their
HFC spectral resources in a single device.
